Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated
FaceDetective exists to help people find out where their own images appear and to verify whether a profile they are dealing with is using stolen or synthetic photos. This policy sets the boundaries of that purpose. It forms part of the Terms of Service and breaching it ends your access without refund.
1. Use we support
- Finding where your own photo has been copied, reposted or used without permission.
- Checking whether an image sent to you online is stolen, recycled or AI-generated.
- Protecting yourself against catfishing, romance fraud, impersonation and sextortion.
- Collecting links you need in order to file a takedown or a report to a platform or the police.
- Monitoring the reuse of images you own or hold rights to.
2. Use we prohibit
- Stalking, monitoring, tracing, harassing, threatening or intimidating any person.
- Publishing, sharing or compiling results into a dossier about an identifiable person.
- Uploading any image of a person under 18, or searching in order to locate a minor.
- Screening decisions about employment, credit, insurance, housing, tenancy, education or benefits.
- Any government, police or intelligence surveillance use without a lawful basis and our written agreement.
- Targeting people based on race, ethnicity, religion, disability, gender identity or sexual orientation.
- Uploading intimate or explicit images of another person, or non-consensual imagery of any kind.
- Automated access, scraping, bulk querying, resale of results, or use of the service to build a competing dataset.
- Attempting to download, capture or reconstruct obscured previews, or to bypass payment or access controls.
- Any use unlawful where you are, including breaches of data protection, biometric privacy or anti-stalking law.
3. Your responsibility for uploads
By uploading an image you confirm that you have the legal right to submit it and to have it analysed for the purpose of a search, that the person shown is an adult, and that your purpose is lawful. You remain the party responsible for the search and for how you use the results.
4. Enforcement
We may investigate suspected breaches, limit or block scans, suspend or delete an account, retain relevant records for legal purposes and report unlawful conduct to the competent authorities. We act on credible reports of abuse and do not require a court order to terminate an account for breach.
Terminations for breach are final and are not refunded.
5. Reporting abuse
If you believe someone is using FaceDetective against you, or that a search involves a minor or non-consensual imagery, contact legal@facedetective.io with as much detail as you can provide. Reports involving minors or non-consensual intimate imagery are treated as the highest priority.
